Haringey Welcome was pleased to be invited by Haringey Council to sign this joint statement to the Home Secretary, Yvette Cooper, in response to the recently announced immigration White Paper.
The Government’s framing of the announcement, and in particular the Prime Minister’s shameless right-wing dog whistling, is deeply disappointing, though sadly unsurprising. It comes alongside a set of proposals that offer no solutions, but that reinforce the counterproductive and harmful demonisation that so many migrants and people of colour are already subject to.
We say loud and clear: ours is an island of solidarity, not strangers!
