HARINGEY WELCOME 

VOLUNTEER POLICY

1. Purpose 

This policy sets out Haringey Welcome’s approach to volunteering. It reflects our values of  dignity, justice, and welcome, and sets clear expectations so that people who volunteer with  us are treated fairly, respectfully, and safely. 

Haringey Welcome is a small, volunteer-led solidarity organisation. We create spaces where  people come together to campaign, collaborate, and learn. Some volunteers may have been  affected by hostile systems, displacement, or discrimination. We seek to create  environments that are respectful, inclusive, and proportionate to our capacity. This policy applies to all volunteers, including Board and Advisory Group members, and  should be read alongside the Code of Conduct, Safeguarding Policy, Expenditure Policy, and  GDPR commitments. 

2. Our Approach to Volunteering 

Volunteers are partners in our collective work to make Haringey a borough that welcomes  everyone. 

People participate in different ways depending on their capacity and circumstances. We aim  to make volunteering flexible, inclusive, and transparent about what we can and cannot  offer as a small organisation.

4. Types of Volunteer Involvement 

• Core Volunteers 
• Community or Project Volunteers 
• Supporters

5. Volunteer Rights 

All volunteers have the right to dignity, respect, fairness, clear information, reimbursement  of expenses, and to raise concerns safely.

6. Volunteer Responsibilities 

Volunteers are expected to uphold values, follow policies, act responsibly, protect  confidentiality, raise concerns, and follow agreed processes. 

7. Safeguarding and Wellbeing 

Safeguarding concerns must be reported to the Designated Safeguarding Lead. Haringey  Welcome does not provide therapeutic or pastoral support. Volunteers are encouraged to  step back if needed. 

8. Support, Induction, and Information 

All volunteers receive an induction. Volunteers will be given a named contact for questions  or concerns and clear escalation routes. 

9. Concerns and Accountability 

Concerns may be addressed informally or formally in line with Safeguarding Policy. 

10. Ending a Volunteering Role 

Volunteers may stop at any time. Haringey Welcome may end roles where risks or conduct  issues arise.
