HARINGEY WELCOME ADVISORY GROUP

Purpose:

The Haringey Welcome Advisory Group will be a rooting body to help ensure our work remains informed, accountable and responsive to needs in the community. It will ideally be a small group composed of individuals from partner or allied sector organisations, and community members with experience of the immigration system.

AG membership is informal in the sense that AG members convey what they are witnessing in the sector in terms of needs and issues, rather than providing formally structured written reports or accounts. Any material necessary for AG meetings will be prepared by HW. This might include short summaries of our work, indicating where we are delivering and where we may fall short and need specific input.

Meetings would be social in nature over a meal or coffee for a non-agenda led discussion and information exchange. The AG will facilitate information flow and broaden intelligence related to the wider community enabling HW to understand what is happening in the sector, to be accountable to it and to respond as necessary.

Establishing the AG is our starting point. To achieve its purpose as an accountability body that keeps us connected to communities and organisations, it will evolve collaboratively over time in a way that works for everyone involved.

Membership:

Membership of the Advisory Group would be on an annual and rotational basis depending on individual capacity.

How often:

The group will meet quarterly, and in person where possible, with HW present to listen and engage. Please commit to attend at least 3 out of the 4 annual meetings (although we appreciate that unforeseen circumstances are always possible).

What we ask of you:

• Come and talk to us about the things that matter to you. No specific work is expected before a meeting – no papers to read or anything to write.
• Tell us what you want us to do – either collectively with you, or on behalf of yourself or your community.
• Provide constructive criticism of our work so we can improve and grow.

What we commit to you:

• To listen and agree collectively how to best put your ideas, needs, and hopes into action.
• To provide updates on outcomes from previous meetings.
• To provide status of current work, plans and actions.
• Provide support with travel expenses where we can.
• Provide hot drinks and snacks to keep us going.
• We are open for any other enquiries and suggestions on how to improve accessibility

What next:

• We are actively recruiting members. Once we have enough to start, we will kick off with a current target of May/June for our first meeting.
