As local residents and people working in the London Borough of Haringey we express our heartfelt solidarity with the families and community who lost loved ones in Southport. We also stand in solidarity with all people affected by the current racist violence unfolding in towns across the UK since the tragic events of 29 July in Southport
We celebrate the rich diversity of our Haringey community and that of our country, and will never tolerate hate, discrimination or prejudice of any kind against communities who are currently living in fear of racist attacks and victimization. In particular we stand with asylum seekers, refugees, migrants, Muslims, and Black and Brown members of the public who are being targeted.
We condemn unreservedly these horrific assaults on members of the public, and attacks on mosques, hotels, and other buildings, actively fuelled by far right politicians and commentators and the widespread and deliberate dissemination of disinformation.
We call on our local Haringey MPs and political representatives to publicly and forcefully continue to condemn these racist and Islamophobic acts of terror and the xenophobic narratives spun by high profile media and political actors that are stoking this explosion of violence. We further call on our local MPs and political representatives to urge the Prime Minister, Home Secretary, and Government ministers to explicitly and categorically condemn these acts and to offer unreserved support and assistance to all affected communities.
The scapegoating of migrant and refugee members of our communities is never acceptable. These abhorrent actions of a minority do not represent ‘our country’ or ‘legitimate concerns’; they are not ‘protests’ or ‘unrest’, but white supremacist acts of hate that have no place in our society.
